Zeiss B-speed

€0.00

Introducing the inaugural and venerable generation of Zeiss's iconic "Super Speed" lenses, affectionately known as "B-Speeds." Originating in the 1970s, these lenses were initially housed with ARRI Bayonet Mounts, sharing a profound lineage with subsequent iterations of the Super Speed series. What truly distinguishes these lenses are their exceptional optics, crafted from the now-prohibited "rare earth element glass." Our collection proudly retains their original coatings and, perhaps most significantly, their distinctive iris design.

The hallmark of B-Speeds lies in their peerless 9-blade iris, which yields an aperture resembling a triangular shape with softly curved edges. This unique iris configuration not only imparts a gracefully gradual focus transition but also generates one of the most captivating bokeh effects among all lenses. At wide-open apertures, out-of-focus points of light take on the form of circular orbs. However, as you stop down to T2, these circular orbs transform into elegantly rounded triangles. B-Speeds offer a versatile range of aesthetics within a single set, providing you with the means to set your project apart.

Their minimal breathing adds to their allure, while the vintage coatings produce delightful flares. Shooting wide open delivers a beautifully flattering aesthetic with a subtle luminous quality to highlights. When you stop down, the result is a crisper, higher-contrast appearance.

Here is a nice article from Duclos that speak about the history behind thes zeiss lenses.
